Excellent, Imaginative, Original Musicals

The Immigrant

Looking back, “The Immigrant” is kind of a puzzle to me. Working with my colleague, we crafted a musical that in some ways responded to a California ballot initiative that dealt with limiting immigration. We had the boys research their own coming to America stories, then chose representative stories to stage. That would have been fine, but we also had a loosely conceived plot about a crowded classroom and a Haitian immigrant. Yep, it was a mess. However, as always, a number of songs really stood out, particularly “Oyfn Veg”, a setting a a Jewish-Polish folk song. There is no script at this time, but I will continue to search!

Well, ok, the songs.

Enjoy! Comments are always welcome.
