I am really lucky to have several excellent ways to get some time away from the demands of creating and presenting a stage-reading. Hiking is probably number one. There are so many great hikes around here that are just a few minutes away that it seems a crime not to take advantage of them all the time. One other experience is live music. While I am not a big fan of full-blown rock concerts, I do occasionally find myself in a crowd with earplugs firmly lodged. A few months ago it was Steven Wilson in Berlin. Tonight it’s David Bryne in San Francisco. I’m secretly praying he performs Puzzlin’ Evidence, clearly one of the absolute greatest recordings in the history of recordings.
I also spend a fair amount of time at classical concerts. I usher at SF Symphony so I hear a lot there, but I also go to smaller venues like The Maybeck House in Berkeley. Each experience becomes part of my musical language.
I don’t like the presence of other people at concerts! I don’t know why, but I don’t.
The search for possible cast members continues with a new influx of very interesting performers. Auditions are a week from Friday so…it’s getting real.
